A Faculty ‘Thank You’ and Update from the President and Provost

From UCF President Alexander N. Cartwright and Interim Provost Michael D. Johnson

We want to share our heartfelt appreciation to our faculty members for your perseverance and dedication to our students, and your innovative thinking that has kept us successful during this once-in-a-century pandemic.

For many of our students, learning, living and having access to campus resources are essential to their personal and academic development. We all — faculty, staff and students — thrive on belonging and connecting with each other. Our plans can provide those opportunities by returning to limited on-campus operations with guidance from health agencies and experts.

We want to share our remarks from today’s Faculty Senate meeting with you so that you can hear directly from us. Below are links to our updates and the full discussion.

We will continue to listen. We respect the Faculty Senate’s vote today, and we are considering the concerns voiced during the discussion. Our plans are better with your input, and we thank you for sharing it with us.

We each face exposure in some way if we do not live completely isolated. And because we do not know how long the virus is going to be with us, we will find ways to live with the virus with a commitment to the health and well-being of students and employees.

Our job is to minimize risk as much as possible for as many people as possible, and that’s why we have been so focused on taking as many preventative measures as we can. We are listening to the science, and we are committed to making improvements to our plans with your feedback.

In the coming weeks, expect more detailed communications as we all prepare for the fall semester. We commit to transparency, and we value your voices in this process.
