From Dr. Michael D. Johnson, interim provost and vice president for Academic Affairs
Several organizational changes are underway for Information Technologies and Resources (IT&R) to coincide with the July 1 retirement of Joel Hartman, vice president of IT&R and chief information officer.
First, let me thank and applaud Joel for his remarkable 25-year career at UCF. Starting in 1995, he led UCF to national prominence in harnessing technology. Joel has played a vital role in successfully shaping UCF’s technological, academic, and information infrastructure, transforming how UCF looks, feels, and functions while positioning us well for more innovation in the future. A tribute page and video for Joel can be found at https://provost.ucf.edu/joel.
With Joel’s retirement, Michael Sink will serve as interim chief information officer and will continue to direct UCF IT. He will report to me. We expect to launch a national search soon for the permanent vice president and CIO.
Meanwhile, the division of Information Technologies and Resources is being dissolved. The former units that reported to Joel will stay within the Office of the Provost & Academic Affairs as they continue to serve UCF. These units and their leaders will operate under the following reporting structure:
⢠UCF Libraries, headed by Interim Director Frank Allen, will report to me. We plan a search for Dean of Libraries that should begin in the fall.
⢠The Information Security Office, led by Chris Vakhordjian, associate vice president and chief information security officer, will report to the CIO with a dotted line to Rhonda Bishop, vice president for Compliance and Risk.
⢠The IT&R Business Center, which is renamed the Academic Affairs Business Center and led by Assistant Vice President Karen Cobbs, will report to Rebeca Richards, senior assistant vice president for Budget, Planning and Administration.
⢠Space Administration, led by Director Christy Miranda, will report to Dr. Charles Reilly, professor and assistant vice provost, Contract Compliance and Administrator Support.
We believe these organizational changes will position these units well to continue serving UCF successfully as we move the university forward to greater inclusive excellence.
