New Academic Alignment Aims to Enhance the Student Experience

The changes involve several key academic units, including UCF's national-model Direct Connect to UCF program

From Michael D. Johnson, Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs

I am pleased to announce a realignment of academic units to promote student success and strengthen the university’s academic enterprise.

The organizational changes in the Division of Academic Affairs will affect UCF Connect, UCF Global, the Division of Student Learning and Academic Success, UCF IT, the Division of Digital Learning, and the Office of the Provost and Academic Affairs. This evolution, which will unfold throughout September, includes these transitions:

• DirectConnect to UCF ® and the UCF Connect Centers move to the Division of Student Learning and Academic Success, reporting to Theodorea Regina Berry, Vice Provost of Student Learning and Academic Success and Dean, College of Undergraduate Studies;
• UCF Global moves to the Office of the Provost and Academic Affairs, reporting to Tim Letzring, Senior Associate Provost for Academic Affairs;
• the UCF Online Connect Center and UCF Continuing Education move to the Division of Digital Learning, reporting to Tom Cavanagh, Vice Provost for Digital Learning;
• and the Office of Instructional Resources Classroom Support, Engineering, Programming and Project Management teams move to UCF Information Technology, reporting to Michael Sink, Interim Vice President and CIO.

These changes will allow us to continue our focus on student success and the student experience.

The success of this reimagining relies on the creativity and collaboration of our staff, faculty, and partners. I am particularly grateful to Jeff Jones, vice provost for UCF Connect and UCF Global, for his suggestions and insights for these changes. Jeff will retire from UCF on Oct. 1 after seven years of outstanding leadership and contributions to our university.

Please join me in congratulating Jeff and also in supporting the staff, administrators, and faculty who are essential to the success of this new alignment.
