Conducting research is a vital part of the university experience, which is why the Burnett Honors College is hosting its second Research Match Day from 2-4 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 24, in the Student Union’s Pegasus Ballroom.
The free event is intended to help honors students match with faculty who are conducting cutting-edge research in a variety of disciplines. The session will allow students to meet researchers, find out more about their projects and their needs and potentially find a spot on their research teams.
“Participating in research can help better prepare students for graduate programs and their future careers, no matter what those may be,” said Padmini Coopamah Waldron, director of the Office of Honors Research. “Many of today’s and tomorrow’s professions involve deep diving or problem-solving, which research develops in abundance.”
More than 80 open undergraduate research positions will be available at Research Match Day. Students should come dressed professionally and bring their resumes. Among the many topics researchers are studying:
- User-activated color-changing fabrics
- Hispanic oral history
- Artistic neuroprosthetics and video game training systems
- Exploring Protective Factors for Sexual Violence Perpetration Among College-Aged Men
- Biomedical Acoustics Research Lab
Last year 40 faculty members and more than 100 students attended. Four out of five students were able to find positions.
“I was pleased with the motivation and quality of student researchers I met on Research Match Day,” said Yongho Sohn, an engineering professor. “These students have the scholastic aptitude and meaningful commitment to contribute to the research activities at UCF.”
