Biography
Dr. John Weishampel is the interim dean of the College of Graduate Studies and a professor of biology.
He received a bachelor’s degree in biology from Duke University and master’s and doctorate degrees in environmental sciences from the University of Virginia. Prior to coming to UCF in 1995, he was a National Research Council (NRC) Research Associate at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. Weishampel’s research primarily focuses on the detection of current and prediction of future spatial patterns of ecological attributes using remote sensing, GIS and simulation modeling. His interdisciplinary endeavors have overlapped with archaeology, biogeochemistry, civil engineering, geology, hydrology in coastal, forest, marine, wetland and urban ecosystems.
While at UCF, Weishampel received a National Science Foundation CAREER award, a NASA New Investigator award and two Fulbright awards. He also served as a program officer in the Division of Graduate Education at NSF.
