Biography
Dr. Sheila Amin is dean of the Burnett Honors College at the University of Central Florida, where she leads UCF’s four-year honors program that promotes exceptional student scholarship, leadership and creativity.
Amin joined UCF in 2018 as dean and professor of public administration and was reappointed in 2023 for a five-year term. In addition to her duties with the honors college, she also served from November 2023 to July 2025 as UCF’s interim vice president for Information Technology and chief information officer. In that role, she advanced the university’s IT momentum and strengthened the division’s ability to deliver essential technology infrastructure and services to students, faculty and staff.
Prior to UCF, she held leadership roles at Austin College as executive vice president for academic affairs and special initiatives, and at the University of Texas at Dallas as dean of undergraduate education and professor of economics.
A founding (emeritus) fellow of the University of Texas System Academy of Distinguished Teachers, she has also served as an American Council on Education Fellow and a Fulbright Research Scholar in Colombia. Nationally, she co-founded the Council of Higher Education for honors colleges and programs within the Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities. She is on the ACE Women’s Networking Executive Council and is a Jacob K. Javits and H.B. Earhart Fellow.
Her research focuses on economic development and political stability in developing countries. Amin received her Ph.D. in economics from Duke University, a master’s degree in economics from the University of Chicago and a bachelor’s degree in economics from Texas A&M University.
